What is Ride Burns?

Ride Burns is the rebranding of the Burns Lake Mountain Biking Association (BLMBA) which was created in 2006 as a Non-Profit Society, registered with the Province of British Columbia.

But after many years, and so many acronyms across the mountain biking world, we felt Ride Burns makes a much clearer statement that our BLMBA acronym ever could be. Essentially we want all, including ourselves, to ride Burns Lake.

That's the official designation, but we're much more than that.

Since the beginning, Ride Burns has served as a Trail Advocacy Society, a local riding club/association, and Tourism Operator for the trails on and surrounding Boer Mountain, 10 minutes north of downtown Burns Lake.

Our mission statement: "Burns Lake is a world class mountain biking destination and vibrant mountain biking community".

Both parts of that statement hold true, with a club membership of over 200 riders/hikers/dog-walkers. Ride Burns conducts weekly Wednesday Workbees where local riders (and, frequently, out-of-town visitors!) work on trail maintenance and building projects. Those evenings culminate in a shuttle to the top of the mountain where both downhill and cross country enthusiasts get to enjoy the fruits of their labour with a sunset community ride. This unique fixture has helped  Ride Burns to foster a sense of local ownership, commitment, and stewardship of this increasingly popular outdoor recreational playground.

As a Non-Profit Society, Ride Burns holds two land use agreements which allow all of the trails in the Boer Mtn trail network to be 100% legal and sanctioned. The first is 160 acres of private land on lease from the Burns Lake Community Forest which comprises the Burns Lake Bike Park section. The other is a 4000 hectare area on and around Boer Mountain in partnership with the Province of British Columbia through the Recreation Sites and Trails division. The Boer Mountain Recreation Site was the recipient of the 2010 Premiere's Award for Innovation in conjunction with Rec Sites and Trails. It is important for us to understand the subtle differences in liabilities and regulations between these two land use agreements, the presentation of the trail network is of a single contiguous network of trails. Much clearer, like the change from BLMBA to Ride Burns, we think the presentation and promotion of the trails as one network is clearer as well.

In the short years since its inception, the Ride Burns has achieved a great deal in such a short time. Recognized and heralded as one of the most progressive, sanctioned, and sustainable trail networks anywhere on the planet. Period.

For those who haven't had a chance a must ride is Razorback, Pigasus, or Star Lake, epic cross country trails, that form the bulk of the perimeter of the network.  This perimeter loop is a MUST ride, you'll love it! See you out there!

On the books for new trails this year the club is putting the finishing touches on the Hogzilla trail, the latest flow trail on Boer Mountain. A black diamond rated, jump and berm filled spectatular adrenaline filled ride from the top of Boer Mtn to the bottom. Big brother to the renowned When Pigs Fly trail.

We are also very excited to share that funding has been secured for construction of an Uptrack, which will provide so many options in routes to take. This project will likely be completed in 2022, but should sections be ready sooner we will be announcing those as they are available.

We hope you can put a trip to Burns Lake in your calendar for this year. You won't be disappointed!
